Quarantine Confusion - Canada to Germany

👋 Hello! I am coming from Canada to Germany to visit my fiance. I am confused about the quarantine rules. Do I need to quarantine for 10 days? Can I quarantine with him? I cannot seem to find a clear answer. Please help!

AdiNoelle Hi there, I am traveling to Germany from the U.S. and yes. Once you arrive you will have to go straight to your destination and quarantine for 10 days. You can be together you just cannot leave to go to the store etc. You can test after 5 days of quarantine and with a negative test result you no longer have to quarantine. I believe some states in Germany also Abe an option of taking a PCR test 48 hours prior to eliminate the quarantine all together. I hope you enjoy your time there. I am leaving this afternoon to see my boyfriend and I’m so excited!

AdiNoelle I looked online and saw I could get tested at the airport once I arrive in Berlin. I did that but calling 116 or 117 will help find a testing center near you as well.

Not according to what is stated in this site:

“Update 09 Dec 2020: Individuals entering Germany to visit their partners are exempted from Quarantine. In most cases a negative test taken after or up to 48 hours prior to arrival is required to qualify for the exemption...”

I saw that, and that's why I was confused. However, when I read the documents, it appears that only people who have left to visit partners and returned to their residence in Germany are exempt.

Please let me know if you find any documents to prove quarantine exemptions.

AdiNoelle I just read the Update for Baden-Württemberg from January 11th. It says, that you need to take a test either 48h before arrival or right after arrival.
Nevertheless you need to quarantine for 10days and which can be reduced if you take another test after 5 days after arrival. So you need a negative Test upon arrival and one after 5 days... Which sounds pretty confusing to me. The best thing you can do is call your local „Ordnungsamt“ or „Gesundheitsamt“. They will tell you what to do.
In my case it was the „Ordnungsamt“ when my gf visited me in October.

Ok, sorry, I just read it again. Amongst others, people that visit their partners are excepted from the rule if they show a negative test taken 48h before arrival or right after arrival. That’s written in the regulation for Baden-Württemberg as well as Hessen. That sounds good to me.
All the best for the two of you. Enjoy your time together, in quarantine or not. It’s the most precious thing to share time in the same atmosphere these days.

AdiNoelle Yes I do. The regulations for Niedersachsen state the same exemption for unmarried partners.

AdiNoelle your German host needs to align that with the local authorities. As I understand now you need to register online before you enter.
This is new. In October when my gf last visited me there were no questions at the airport about Tests or anything. They just wanted to know if she has the invitation letter. The rest was arranged with the public health office by me. This might be different now. So again - Your Host should clarify that. But as I understand the regulation, once you send them the negative test result the quarantine is lifted.
